What is Hormonal Acne?

The most common skin condition that affects almost all in this globe is acne, that can occur at any age. Hormonal acne caused by hormonal fluctuations, also known as adolescent acne, affects people during certain phases of life, most commonly, during puberty. Compared to men, generally women are largely affected by this type of acne, since they go through different hormonal phases in their lives like pregnancy, pre-menopause and menopause.

Changes in hormones and acne occurrence are highly associated with each other. Androgens – the male hormones – present both men and women can be called as a ‘oil factory’ of our physical system. Changing the inner wall of the hair follicle by stimulating the sebaceous gland produces more oil, androgen is instrumental for the bacterial growth in the skin resulting in hormone acne. Frequent touching and scratching the affected area should be avoided to control spreading of acne.

Natural remedies are commonly recommended options of hormonal acne treatment, because of the side effects the other treatments can cause. Natural treatments help to get rid of the toxins by cleansing the organs to avoid acne breakouts. Homeopathic treatment is also considered as a natural acne hormonal treatment, since it works deep in the physical system. Homeopathic capsules help to cleanse the organs by taking out the toxins, and increase the flow of nutrients. Few oral contraceptives can help balance the hormones, reduce the spreading of acne in other parts of the skin; but the ones used by teenagers may not work with others.

Hormonal changes can also cause hormonal cystic acne, formation of pus filled cysts. Other medicines recommended can help treating this but the side effects can be very serious that include weight gain, becoming immune to one particular medication (chances are more the patients will not respond to alternate treatments for future acne problems), mood imbalance, and depression. If the symptoms of these side effects occur, it is advisable in the beginning itself to contact the physician immediately and enquire about an alternative medicine or a treatment option.

Regular exercise (to balance the weight), proper diet (avoiding junk foods that are high in sugar and fatty acids), regulating the digestive system by eating green vegetables, food high in vitamin A, vitamin B6, zinc, Tea tree oil and drinking plenty of water are important to get rid of the problems with hormonal acne. If the problem occurred by acne is not tolerable, it is suggested not to rely on general treatment solutions or ‘over the counter’ medication any more, but to get an immediate, proper medical attention.
